We are but a few days from Ash Wednesday and into a period the Church calls Lent. A time of 40 days (not counting Sundays) for reflection and preparation before the celebration of Easter. This period of Lent for Christians is based on a period of time when Jesus withdrew into the desert for 40 days.
Jesus suffered in the wilderness (Luke 4:2) ‘’He ate nothing during those days’’. For 40 days we can ‘eat nothing’,
What to give up? In the past I have given up sugar, chocolate, alcohol, some have suggested giving up television or social media; I have also instead of giving up something I have taken on a task such as to read a book from the bible or a scripture based book for example by Tom Wright, Max Lucado or C S Lewis.

To test ourselves is a tough ask, however we do not go in our own strength, the Holy Spirit is there to support and to lead us; as the Holy Spirit lead and supported Jesus.
To enter into Lent we are walking in Jesus footsteps which is a wonderful way of entering into Gods world, when Lent is over and the celebrations of Easter has begun, you do not have to stop walking in Jesus footsteps. Jesus said many time ‘’follow me’; that path may be unknown, but it is a safe and wondrous path.
John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
